The core i# series is not new by any means; the first number in your model (i7 4xxx) indicates that it's a 4th-gen. For comparison, they are currently on the 8th gen. So sure, it may have been a relatively beefy processor 4 years ago, but it's also 4 generations behind modern processing demands. I've had a 2012 MBA (i3) for awhile but recently upgraded to this-year's generation processor in a PC desktop. It's been running just fine without any kind of special audio card or interface, and I built the entire tower for $300 and change. SSD is only useful when there's disk overload so disk can't keep up with all the files that has to read for the project while playing it (specially when there are tons of small snippets). Even then he could load all of the sounds into the 16GB RAM so that wouldn't be the problem The problem is his processor, and probably not the amount of tracks per se but the amount of plugins used, specially 3rd party ones. My i7-6700k at 4,5GHz already gives me problems with my medium sized projects (30-40 tracks), there's no way his laptop cpu at 2,3Ghz can keep up with 80 tracks ones. A cheap way to see it is: higher clock speeds = better latency. More cores = more nº of tracks (and plugins) that can be played before falling into problems. So the best he can do is start freezing and bouncing tracks, or just start grouping similar channels and work with them as mixes. I bet many of his channels are just a single sound or FX that appears just once or twice, so to need to have a single channel for that if you already mixed that sound. I've been experiencing the same audio glitch on both of them - the audio will randomly cut out for between 0.5 and 1 seconds and skip. This will happen at least once or twice in a 60 minute liveset, and it occurs on both interfaces. I'm running Ableton Live 9.6.2 64-bit, with the MOTUs connected via USB. This is what I've done to troubleshoot: 1 - updated firmware on both MOTUs 2- tried 3 different Macbook Pros, running El Capitan, Yosemite and Snow Leopard. It’s a pure video player with minimal controls overlaid at the bottom—and it’s mostly controlled using mouse movements. It’s generally more efficient and less demanding resource-wise, but things like fiddling with subtitles or streaming to Chromecast can be a pain. The first thing that stands out is the lack of a traditional user interface. Fast media player for mac chromecast. Nifty and convenient for touchscreen devices.
